How to change HDD's on laptop?

How to connect Laptop and Desktop HDDs directly?

  • I'm getting a new Desktop soon (Well, building one) and I want a way to directly connect my laptop to my desktop, not through the wireless network, directly, and in a way where I can access the entire Laptop hard drive. I don't know about USB connections, but the Laptop does not have any 3.0 connections or external SATA ports. (Well, an eSATA, but I doubt it sends outgoing info) What is the best way to connect them? An ethernet crossover cable? (I don't know the difference between a normal and crossover cable, though) A USB? Somehow sharing the HDD on the wireless net without other computers seeing it? The laptop has an eSATA, USBs, HDMI, VGA, 1394, and ethernet ports. (Plus media card readers) Desktop has all of the above except for 1394 (I believe) and external eSATA. I don't know what to do. Does anyone have an idea?

  • Answer:

Get a pci ESATA card for your desktop. It supports two way transfer at SATA speeds. By far the fastest option.
