What are some good video cameras?

I'm making a portfolio for college this summer with films and I'm stumped on what camera I should get. I was thinking about a canon t3i, but that's not a real video camera, if you know what I mean. So are there any camcorders that are around that price range, but shoot nice looking video? With focus and all? Money is my only problem here.. So I'm not quite sure what to buy. Thank you! :)

I think that you should go to a camera store. They can tell you what you need to know as well as they may even have a trade in to sell.
