A Question to all Y/A Cricket section users?

How do the users feel about the info being shared & atmosphere prevailing at YA Cricket section presently--?

  • Section has witnessed bit of cleansing, with troll activity not that overbearing, like it had become recently. Good users from all around have started frequenting & things are being discussed in a healthy manner. Good to see few former regular good users coming back on & off. If given a choice whom would you like to participate again or who was your most favorite user earlier. Big question I would like to ask is that- Has this section become more Opinion based than Sharing Knowledge. If yes, then is it right/wrong and why. Pl share your thoughts.

  • Answer:

Yes, you are right. Y! has lost its theme in sports sections.Opinions still are okay but many questions are asked about predicting a winner, looser blindly. From question-answer forum it has been turned in to sports discussion forum. But Y! has no problem in it because it is doubling their business. "Who will grab orange cap?" or "Who will hit more sixes?" or "Who will win T20 Cup" or "who will end the year with top on ranking" all these questions can be answered through usage of predictions and opinions. But the questions like "Who has scored most runs in one days and tests" or "Against which team Bradman scored his 70% runs", can be called true cricket knowledge sharing questions. Trolling activity is down, due to there is no important series being played between nations. IPL which is a biggest domestic tournament, is in progress. Troublemakers are finding hard to find the issues. I would like to see Sundar back in action.

It has improved a bit, but still far too much nonses happening. Any user who only asked genuine cricket related questions when asking them is missed, but I will not narrow it down to a specific member. I think it is more opinion based, but that is partly because a lot of the questions require an opinion rather than knowledge i.e. "Who do you think will win Deccan Chargers or Delhi Dare Devils?", "Who is better Bradman or Tendulkar?", "Who is the best spin bowler to have played the game of cricket?" etc All of those questions will always be answered with opinions. If more questions were like "Which batsman once scored a triple hundred in a single day of test cricket?", "How many centuries has Tendulkar scored in a winning cause for India?" etc well those can be answered by sharing your knowledge. Questions like "What are the most amazing individual batting or bowling performances you have ever seen?", that is open to sharing some of your knowledge from what you have seen, even though it will often get bias answers towards the team the answerer supports. As long as the questions are cricket related and not asked just to cheat by voting a secondary account as best answer, I don't see anything wrong with asking other than the ones which have been done to death like the "who is better Bradman or Tendulkar?" which is very tiresome.

Indeed TJ. This section has become a lil bit better these days with troll activities reduced somewhat. Its good to see some old good users making occasional visits too. I won't be able to say who's my favorite but I would like to see Moorthy visiting the section more frequently. Would love to see Quandary and Jinxie back. BQ: Off late, its become more of an opinion based section. Though I love this but IMO it should remain a sharing based section because that's what its meant for.

Run Silent Run Deep

Looking through several pages, it is still as pointless as it's nadir. Occasionally, it works, but it's still full of the worst of the same old trash. Hardly worth bothering with, if you were looking for a conversation in cricket.

If only mr jinx was alive to see this atmosphere :(

i love yahoo questions i think its a great idea you can get some good advice on here but its always going to have opinion base answers so one will have to do your own research in the answers you get even from top badge users ps i also noticed a lack of trolls recently but when i posted this question i was laughed at basically lol i think there is les but the still come and go

Bronko Bust

It has been cleaned up a fair bit...still annoying to see all the anti Don Bradman/Tendulkar garbage questions floating around.

You spoke too soon,my friend. The section is full of trolls this morning, the worst being the person posting false & cruel things about MrJinx.

To be honest .I have been to other section when i was not in here .But there i saw really good quality trolling .Nothing involved race, nationality but still that was just trolling .It could be fun if you know how to do trolling .But i think Only in cricket section there is low quality trolling .I won't say it trolling i would say it fearsome hatred & that is damaging to any one who use this section .Actually the haters may realize that spreading hatred is easy but it don't become fun any more when you have none around you to answer . Still too few question about other teams. Its more like own regional talks .if there is any topic about foreign players there you will sense only negative comments .I don't see yahoo as a sharing knowledge site .its more like hanging out in a group who has different opinions but have similar love for the game ..cheers ..
