Gillian Barre Syndrome. How often & under what circumstances do they put a person in a drug induced coma?
-
I have a female friend that's 21 years of age & she has been diagnosed with Gillian Barre Syndrome. She lost all feeling every where. I know shes able to blink her eyes & nod her head some. I have not been able to see her cause im in a different state then she is. I know her symptoms started out as headaches. Then her fingers were numb. Then she was having problems walking. Her breathing was affected to cause i remember talking with her on the phone or a family remember & she said she couldn't breathe well. Well at this time she hadn't been diagnosed yet & i was looking into all possibilities to figure out what was wrong with her. I was thinking ms to fibromyalgia to leukemia to cancer to even kidney problems. I could not figure out what she had nor the doctors in her town couldn't either cause it was a small town. I told her to take some blood work to see if they could find anything their. Everything was good. Her kidneys were fine no diabetes everything looked great. At this time her back hurt & her neck hurt to. Well these are normal signs to almost anything you know i didn't think nothing about these being signs of Gillian Barre Syndrome. Then they tested her for ms giving her a mri of her head & neck they found she was negative for that as well. I believe after this is when her family brought her into a bigger city where they diagnosed her. They did a spinal tap to find out she had it. If any one has any stories about Gillian Barre Syndrome or any other info that can help me please give me all the help i can get. I will then pass this info onto my family members that are looking for answers. I am trying to figure out in how many cases with Gillian Barre Syndrome how often they have to put them into a drug induced coma & also any other info you can give me. Thank you.

Answer:
Of all the neurological diseases although it is devastating and there is a long difficult recovery it has one of the best future prognosis. ALS. Parkinsons and MS all progress to death and although some move slow remission is less likely. I know survivors of Gillian Barre personally and I wrote a research paper on it. If it is caught in time it does have a good survival rate. I face the possibility of ALS, MS or Parkinsons.
