Work out tips for gym goer?

So I've been going to the gym for the past week, I used to go 5 days a week (with no real regimine) but due to surgerys and laziness, this is my first time back in over a year. I'm 21, female, about 5'6 and 140lbs. There's nothing in particular I want to work on, just to get back in shape and tone up. I've been running one mile every other day to get started, but was wondering... Any more experienced gym buffs out there have any tips?
