What to do if I Got a D in a freshman year?

I got a D in my first semester of freshman year. Are my UC dreams over?

  • I took Algebra 2 Trig my freshman year and a recieved D first semester and a C the next. Afterwards I took an online course over the summer which enabled me to move onto Pre-Calc, but nevertheless my D is still on my transcript. I've recieved all A's for my other honors classes and this year am taking 2 APs as well as other honors classes, piano, orchestra, dance, three languages, and plan on starting a club and join community service soon. My dream is to become a medical writer and graduate from UCSD, but i'm afraid my D will prevent this from coming happening. Will I be alright if I do well my sophomore, junior, and senior years of high school?

  • Answer:

If you do really well the rest of your high school career, I think you should be OK. It sounds like you have an extremely impressive and well-rounded résumé! That's awesome. Make sure you do really well on the SATs/ACTs and write a really excellent admissions essay. You'll be fine! Good luck!
