What is a good art college?

What qualifications do I need to get into Edinburgh College Of Art?

• I am in 4th year doing my standard grade exams at the moment, after my standard grade exams I am going into 5th year. I actually have a few questions... 1 - I have chose to do Higher Art, Int 2. English, Int. 2 maths, Int. 2 Geography and Int. 2 biology and then do my highers later in 6th year (apart from art, i will be doing advanced higher). will this be acceptable for Art College? 2 - When I have chosen my highers in 6th year, and done my higher exams,( if all goes well) I am going to the local college (orkney college) to do an art course to continue my further education, get a portfolio together and maybe get a degree so I can maybe get accepted into ECA (Edinburgh College Of Art), will this work? 3 - do they look at your standard grades when applying? Or just the highers you have? ( i only picked 1 or 2 highers for 5th year but im doing about 4 highers in 6th year if all goes well) 4 - if I got a degree or something at the orkney college (for art obviously) would I be accepted into the ECA? 5 - which subjects does the art college want? (apart from art)

• Answer:

  The ECA wants 4 B's at Higher including English and Art&Design or Craft&Design. I'm pretty sure that your Highers/Int 2 will override your Standard Grade results for entry to Orkney College so try to do well in them, but they will still look at your S4 results. You could take a course such as Portfolio Preparation which allows direct entry into a University Degree or you could go straight from 6th year to university (which could be easier for you).
