Do I have to take a SAT in order to go to college?

Do you have to take the SAT to go to a state college if you go to a community college first?

  • I have a friend who wants to go to college without taking the SAT's. Is it possible to go to community college without taking the SAT's and then a state college will automatically accept you without taking the SAT's simply because you were accepted to a regular college. Here's a quote from an instant message he sent me "I was also told that once someone gets into a school like Three Rivers; they are automatically accepted to UConn. I've been told by a professional.". In your answer please account for my friend's muscular dystrophy. FYI: Three Rivers is a local Community college and UConn is a state college. I told him that he's wrong and that everyone who's going to college must take the SAT's. Who's right here?

  • Answer:

Usually graduates of community colleges or even students who complete semester credits of required transfer classes do not have to take the SAT or ACT to be admitted to a state or private university, but of course university admission is only guaranteed to community college students who complete an official transfer agreement program which many community colleges have with their state university. Few if any community colleges requie the SAT or ACT for admission.
