What guitar should I get?
-
Okay. So i play sort of stuff like Smashing Pumpkins, Queens Of The Stone Age, Nirvana, early Feeder etc... But i'm totally stuck. At the moment i have an Epiphone Dot and an Epiphone Korina Explorer but I'm looking for a more up market guitar. But I'm not rich. So most Gibsons are waaaay out of my league unfortunately. So i started looking at some Fenders. Tempted to get a Standard Tele for a change but i'm worried if it'll fit with my bands sound?? Like will it be too Twangy for my liking? I like having a thickish sound and I mainly use a Big Muff and my amps distortion for my distortion. So is there any thick sounding Fender guitars that are good in price? Or should i save or for ages for a Gibson? Or is there another guitar I may not have heard about that's in my price region?? (I'm looking for something in the range of £250-£450). Hope some guitar-heads read this and I don't get a bunch of stupid meaningless reply's... Thanks.

Hello there, The Telecaster may be a good fit. You just need to find the right model. The 72 Deluxe Reissue has a pair of humbuckers. So does the blacktop series Telecaster. Try out those to see if one has the tone you want. Also, Squier has a version of the 72 Deluxe, I forget what they call the model. It is one of the higher end Squier Teles and is pretty darn good for the price. Later,

Schecter produces great quality and affordable guitars and offer several models that have strat and "vintage" style bodies that are indicative of alot of 90's alt. rock bands. Also another great option is to have your guitars upgraded and professionally set up. That can make a $300 guitar sound and feel like a $1000 guitar for just a couple hundred bucks.

Yeah I'm in the same boat as you, my friend. You sound like you have a varied style of music that you wanna play. I'm the same way. I've played a bunch of fenders and a bunch of gibsons, and (I know this sounds cliche) but your best bet is to just save up for a Les Paul Studio. A Standard Tele is pretty Twangy and meant for blues/clean sounds. As for the Les Paul, It's got such a warm thick sound, and is extremely versatile. You can't go wrong. Saving up is the best thing to do. The last thing you want is to spend the money you have now on something that you could potentially not be satisfied with. So yes, save up for a gibson. There's a reason so many people play them. They sound amazing. Also, if you love the feel of your guitar, but just not it's sound, maybe purchasing new pickups would be best for you? I hope that helps you.
