What's the difference between brand and generic strategy?

Whats the difference of the cheap flute and the better brand flute?

  • i check on youtube it doesnt seems differ to me it only sounds the same to me. whats the difference? or no difference?

  • Answer:

Student model flutes are made of nickel silver (an alloy that doesn't actually have silver in it). They are completely machine made. They have plateau keys and a c foot joint. Intermediate flutes typically have a solid silver headjoint which makes for a better tone. The body is nickel silver. They are machine made. They typically have open hole keys and a b foot joint. At the upper end you may see hand made headjoints. Professional model flutes are solid silver (or other precious metal). They are made by hand. The tone holes are soldered on rather then being drawn from the main tube. This is to ensure a consistent metal thickness. Drawn tone holes can thin out the metal slightly around the hole. The cut of the embouchure hole can be under-cut or over-cut for different effect. The tone, response and versatility improves greatly as you move up in quality. However, it's best to stick with a flute appropriate to your skill level. A beginner is not going to sound any better on a professional flute, yet an intermediate player will start to feel held back by a beginner model.

It's about physics and sound waves. The thickness and density of the material it's made out of affects the tone and fullness. Flutes start at plated nickel silver and continuethrough platinum, 24K gold and even wood. Head to your local music store and try it yourself! You'll be able to tell. Flute preference is generally a personal thing. Everyone is different.

Professional flutes sound a lot better, you'll be able to tell the difference after you've been playing longer. Just get a student one for now

A student type flute doesn't usually have as rich a sound as a "step-up" model or professional model. If you want a more quality instrument without going top of the line, you should at least get a model with a solid silver head. It makes a big difference in the richness of the tones. Good Luck.
