The experience of Job Shadowing?

Summer jobs for healthcare experience?

  • I am a college student who has completed a year as a Biology major. My plan is to go into healthcare and I was hoping I could fill a position within the healthcare field no matter the emphasis (physical therapy, nursing, etc.). Yet I understand it is very difficult to get one. My plan was to attend a class to become a CNA but I am hesitant to do so because I am afraid that job might shy me away from healthcare. I hear many stories about that job. Any other opinions about being a CNA and what exactly they do as well as what other health care jobs can a college student get that will be accepted from a medical school? I was hoping there may be a few other healthcare experience options to choose from. Also, should I just get a job somewhere despite if it is healthcare or not and try to get shadowing time instead? Thanks!

Almost any job in Health Care field will require some level of training before you can work there unless your talking about admin positions. Check local Nursing homes to see if they are hiring and what level of experience you would need.As for training to become a CNA no one can answer that question but you. Many people find CNA work very rewarding and it can lead to LPN and RN positions which are in great demand in many parts of the US atm. check out this website it may help you decide http;//medicalschoolcareers.com submit your zipcode and the search widget will show you local options for schooling/training. Best of Luck

What is your long term goal in the health care field? A CNA position would be good, but of course any position in the healthcare field will require training and certifications and such. But a CNA postion is also a good starter to get your foot in the door. It's also a good way to find out of the hands on portion of the healthcare field is for you if you are wanting to become a RN or LPN. You could also take a short program for Phlebotomy or Medical Assisting, they're also great starters :) I think you should try for a small program like the one's I've suggested, get certified and get a job in those positions. Having working experience in the healthcare field is a huge plus if you are wanting to move forward and get a degree in something higher :)
