Can I major in computer science if I start at a community college and then transfer to a csu?

I am going to go to a community college and then I plan to transfer to a csu. Will starting off at a community college affect my possibilities of majoring in computer science.

Answer:
Starting off at a community college should not affect your possibilities of majoring in computer science at all. I started off at a community college and transferred to a 4-year a school with no trouble. Not only did it save me thousands of dollars, but I also left with an associates degree too( which was a nice addition to my resume at the time). Just talk to your academic adviser when your getting close to transferring and things should be smooth sailing from there. Also since you plan on majoring in Computer Science, try to take as much math and intro programming courses required for Computer Science at the community college(if the courses are offered there). The professors will help you more since the classes will be smaller at a community college, and the workload might be easier there compared to a 4-year school. Best of luck to you

There is no downside to starting at a community college and later transferring into a 4 year school. Many students find that a community college is an easier transition from high school for them. There is another advantage also in that you will have an Associates degree when you get done. If something were do come up in your life while you were in years 3 or 4 in the university, like an accident or illness you would at least have the Associates degree. Employers don't really care about how you got your degree as long as you have one. Also they will want to see you have a decent GPA. The only exception would be if you planned to go to work in a top tier company like Microsoft, Cisco, etc and in those cases they would want a sterling school and a really sterling GPA. Most of us are not going to work in those high level situations.

I took cs in both private and state college and they are very similar. In fact, I thought the community college had better education because they are less driven by finances and keeping student and more competitive.
