Do I need to find an agent near me?

  • I've written a book and am starting to look into agents and publishing. I live near Atlanta, GA. Do I need to find an agent near me, or could I query to those in NYC too? What are the chances they would pick me up if they couldn't ever see me face-to-face?

No, you don't need an agent near you. Most communication is held via phones, faxes, and email. I know of many published authors who have never met their agent or editor in person. I highly suggest you take the time to research publishing in-depth before trying to jump into it. there are many sharks in the water and if you want to avoid them, you have to first lean how to spot them. Your chances depends on luck and that's only as good as your book. If you have a well written and executed novel that has commercial appeal and is unique then your chances are great. If your writing is poor or your novel unoriginal then chances are great that you'll be rejected. Good luck.

You can get one anywhere and they will not want to meet you until your ms has been put on their short list. Follow their submission giudelines exactly and try to avoid fake publishers who ask for money to publish your book. Remember, if they want money they are fake. Real publishers do not charge.
