What's the purpose of an engagement?

Is the purpose of a solitaire ring only engagement and weddings?

• Hello, i just recently bought myself a Diamond Solitaire ring because of the beauty it attracted me with, im a bit clueless about its use though, cause every time i see one on the internet or if i search the Solitaire ring, it is always associated with engagement and weddings. Is this the only use for this ring? Hence, would it be very odd to wear it just as decorating your finger. looking forward to answers on the subject, thanks in advance. have a wounderful day! Chris

  Well, yes, a diamond solitaire ring is associated with being engaged ie an engagement ring. Wearing it on your right hand (ie not your wedding ring finger) might make people think it was an "old" engagement ring ie a broken up engagement and you still have the ring. All this matters only if you are concerned about what other people think! If you love it, wear it. Just be aware that people might ask you ?????
