Why won't movie maker save the movie file?
-
I'm trying to save a movie of a bunch of pictures with transitions and music. When I try to save the video as a movie file, it says: Windows Movie Maker cannot save the movie file to the specified location. Verify that the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the saving location is still available, and that there is enough free disk space available, and try again. All the source pictures are in the right spot, there isn't any indication in movie maker that they are missing (no red X where the icon is for the image), the saving location is available (my desktop, and I have tried the My Videos folder), and there is plenty of hard drive space (over 400GB free) I have tried 2 formats now, on is High Quality Video (NTSC) and the other was the first option, something like best playback options for my computer. One thing I should mention, is that the movie maker project file was originally made on a windows xp computer, with all the source pictures in My Pictures, which the path for that folder is something like c:\documents and settings\user\my documents\my pictures The computer I am on now is windows 7, with all the same source pictures in My Pictures, the path for that folder in windows 7 is c:\users\user\pictures Like I said before, there is no indication in movie maker that the files are looking. I would imagine that it would be looking in the pictures folder using the XP path, but when i right click the pictures in movie maker (in the timeline) and go to properties, the image path is the Windows 7 path. looks like movie maker automatically changed the path of all the pictures from the XP path to windows 7 path automatically, as I did not do this myself. I checked ALL of the pictures in the timeline for missing ones or broken paths - everything was there fine. The only thing I can think of would be causing a problem is what i just described, but as I said movie maker is finding the pictures in the right path. I played back the entire movie with no problems. It just won't save! any ideas??

Answer:
You need to relink the files. It plays back now because it makes a temporary copy of all the files you use. Since you moved the files, technically, it can't find them.
