Does tracking update if I refuse a package that was delivered/signed?
-
I signed a USPS package with signature confirmation by accident. I marked "REFUSED" on the package and dropped it off at the post office. The tracking shows "DELIVERED" and my question is whether the tracking will update to show that it was refused. It has been almost 5 days since I dropped off the package at the post office and the tracking still shows delivered and not refused.

Answer:
It might and it might not. Your mistake was in not seeing it scanned as refused by someone at the post office. Just curious. How do you sign something by mistake? I've taken back countless refused packages since scanning came about, sometimes several days after one was delivered, and I always scan them refused. It reverses the status of 'delivered' and starts the clock on the return trip. But I have never had someone refuse something that was signed for. People sometimes are reluctant to sign things, and I tell them they don't have to. Sign it or refuse it. Never had someone refuse something after signing. Did you open it and then decide you didn't want it? Because if you did, you CAN'T refuse it. Opened packages are accepted packages. If it's going back, it's going back because you paid new postage to send it back. People will sometimes tape something up and instead of giving it to the carrier that knows it was accepted, they drop it at the PO, hoping it will get through. All bets are off when it comes to scanning those. You might just get this package back.
