Does my cousin need the fathers name to apply for TANF?

  • Ok, I know that what you are about to read sounds bad but please give nice comments. Alright, so my cousin is going to have a baby soon and she is going to go apply for TANF. Unfortunately, she does not what any contact with the fathers baby at all and he (the father) does not want anything to do with her or the baby as well. My cousin actually wants to raise the baby herself without any help from the father. Is it a requirement for her to give TANF the fathers name even though she doesn't want any help from him? Will she still get approved if she does not want the father to help?

    If she is applying for TANF then she does need help for her child and the father should be responsible for that not everybody else. She needs to get her child support case done. I don't mind helping out mothers who need it because the fathers still avoid their responsibilities, however, she still needs to try and get whatever child support she can from him. Saying she doesn't want help from him but will gladly take welfare is a bit ridiculous. If she didn't need financial support, she wouldn't be applying for TANF. She is required to give them his information. Of course she could do what some women do and lie by saying they don't know who their kid's father is but she could get into trouble for that and it would leave her not being able to get any more aid ever and possibly prosecuted for fraud.

He is still the father and his child is his responsibility. He is required to support his child just as much as my husband is required to support mine. The fact that those two made a baby even though they cannot stand each other is nobody's problem but their own. Now they need to suck it up and be grown ups for the sake of their child. The man's income matters for a child to get welfare. Single mothers need it for child support. No child support, no welfare.

when i applied for mine since i was not living with him at the time she was born and i had them they didnt need to know his info. they would only need it if they were living together
