Life Expectancy with diagnosis of immune-mediated polyarthritis in a 2 year old yellow lab?
-
My dog is going through the various tests to make a diagnosis but based upon my own research, it is possible that he may have this. What is the typical life expectancy for a 2 year old yellow lab that has this and follows all the treatment recommendations?
-
Answer:
The dog could very well live years, but if you start immune suppressants you must always be careful as the dog would be more likely to pick up diseases. Immune mediated diseases can go completely away if the stimulus is removed. It could be a reaction to a drug the dog took (a vaccination possibly) especially if the dog recently got vaccinated and then showed symptoms. Its worth it to give the dog some trial and error time and not just put them down.

I am so sorry to hear about your dog ,and from what i read with treatment there is an 81% chance of living a full life . Diet has to be carefully Monitored and depending what treatment the vet puts your dog on and how well the dog responds to it ,there is a good chance your dog will have a good life . I can only imagine how tough this is for you both at the moment and i will keep my fingers crossed for your dog. Good luck .
!There is no reason for Ignorance !call a vet!
It depends on how well the pet responds to treatment. Many dogs will go through remission providing that this is what your dog has.

I have never heard of this type of arthritis and I would really talk to the breeder and see if any of his dogs has had this problem...immune issues are usually genetic. This should affect the breeder's whole program and he should find the problem in his stock and improve the lines. I would also tell the Vet you have limited funds and see how fast they diagnose. If it is a private vet who's been around for years he would be less likely to abuse your funds...watch out for those Corporation Vets like Banfied and VCI who over treat and over charge!!
