Why does my HP laptop hang or freeze?

Help finding a Windows 7 driver for synaptic touchpad on an HP G62-225NR laptop?

• I recently did a custom/clean install of Windows 7 on my HP G62-225NR laptop. I downloaded the necessary drivers from the manufacturer's website (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareCategory?os=4063&lc=en&cc=us&dlc=en&sw_lang=&product=4229944#N417) for stuff like network card, graphics chip, etc. When I try to run the driver for my synaptic touchpad, I get the error: "you have to run the 64 bit version of dpinst.exe on this machine". So I tried some other drivers, like the one straight from the Synaptic website, and one for another HP laptop with similar specs. These drivers work, but when I am holding down a key and dragging my mouse at the same time, the cursor locks up. By using the "Mood Pad" setting on on of the drivers, I can tell that the trackpad is still providing input, but the cursor is still frozen in place. It doesn't do this when I use the generic Microsoft driver. So am I having a problem with driver compatibility? Or is there a setting buried that I need to fix? I don't see why the cursor would freeze while holding down a key only with the new driver.
