Should I sell my PS3 and TV to get a gaming PC?
-
I currently have a PS3 and I mostly play Battlefield 3 on it at the moment. I bought a new PS3 along with 22' Samsung TV not too long ago. I really want to get into PC gaming, Ive been interested in MMOs, RTS and PC FPS counterpart which is the definitive platform for FPS. After looking into all these options, PC is the way to go. I want to build a decent gaming rig possibly for $500. In order to do that, I have to sell my PS3 + games and TV. I definitely won't be playing PS3 once next gen console releases, so 2 years will be the most I will be gaming on it, I probably won't get a lot of money by selling it either. Is it worth it?

I would make a plan to build or buy a gaming pc, and start saving $ now for when you can come up with about $800-900 for a decent rig instead of only $500. You cannot build a gaming rig that's anywhere decent at all for $500. You can most certainly build a computer for that amount, but not a good gaming rig. A good graphics card is going to run you $300 bucks all by itself. For +/- $200 you can get a decent card like a Radeon HD 6870 or GTX 560 Ti. But for a $500 budget, no way. So you should plan on putting your most money into a good graphics card like the new GTX 680 (a 660/670 will be coming out any day), or a Radeon HD 7870/7950/7970. This will be your most expensive component, and will dictate what games you will be able to run effectively. But just so you know - a $800 gaming rig will not be a real great one, but it will suffice especially if you get a card like a 7950 and pair it up with a nice CPU like a i5 2500k (which will prob drop in price over the next few months, because of the Ivy Bridge release). You are making a good decision though to go into pc gaming. You be very happy you did. EDIT- oh yeah you might consider looking a pre-built refurbished units from the main vendors. They usually give you a warranty just like they are new. The downside is your choices are limited. Both what you get now, and for upgrading later. Its a trade-off, but you might find a mid-level gaming rig like a Dell XPS 8300 with a i7-2600 and a Radeon HD 6870 for $600. It will play any current game including BF3 at med-high settings. Just a thought, but its your money.

$500 won't cut it for a good bf 3 rig. Yes, sell the console and put the money to a building a rig. I play bf 3 on my pc, and I commend you for seeing the light sir.

no 500$ will not get you a good bf3 pc, the bf3 ps3 community is half decent tho
Tokky
$500 is a little low but doable if you know where to shop

That's very dependant on you really, and what games you enjoy playing, and if you feel its worth sacrificing the ps3 exclusives for much better cross platform games. You wouldn't get much of a gaming PC for 500 dollars. But one good thing about pc is you can always upgrade it as you go. At that price range, I would go with an AMD based system, because they tend to give better performance when you're looking at doing it on a budget. Stick to a low end video card for now, something like a geforce gt520, it will play battlefield, skyrim and other such games, at ok settings on lower resolutions, you can always upgrade to something much more capable later on, and go with something like 4gb ram which is adequate, again you can always buy more later. As for the TV you may as well keep it and use it as a monitor. A new moniter will cost more than you'll get for it anyway, and you can put the money you would have spent on the moiter in to a pc. You should be able to get something along those lines for 500 dollars if you shop around. New egg is a good place to start, Personally I'd wait until I had a bit more money, and go with an intel i5 system with a geforce gtx 560, and 8gb ram you'll get much better performance. (This is what my next pc is going to be)

Checkout gaming pcs at Newegg for best prices. You might have to go to $600 or get refurbished but Newegg usually has the best prices. I made my old pc into an up to date game rig by adding a new motherboard (ASRock for $60) 4 gigs of ddr3 ram for $40 and a new amd955 quadcore cpu at 3.2GHz for $110 all prices are at Newegg where I get the most for my money. I know how to put it all together but it really isn't that hard if you are careful. So for 210 dollars my pc is all new and fast but I already had a good video card that I got for Christmas. I just used my older case and hard drive and optical drive (DVD) and monitor.

I think it's a good idea PC games are so much more varied than PS3, but make sure you do a lot of research on each part of the computer you want to buy and make sure it's the best you can afford because with 500 $ there's little room for error, get something with an intel I5 processor and a 2GB dedicated graphics card if possible, you should be able to find it. It's a bit of work but it's worth it. However you might want to wait for the next playstation next year if you want something durable because a 500 $ PC will be outdated in two or three years. Good luck =)

u might wana keep ur TV if its 11' atleast u might wana hook it up to ur TV and home theather or stereo. PC's give u the freedom of modyfiing the graphics to suit you, alot of times, i do not search this but i notice it with my own experience, that in gaming consoldes....graphic settings are changed like AA, in consoldes, some games have verry low AA ect. But u wana get a PC with PCI express mother board, and not intergrated graphic chips. as games evolve, u will need to get a better graphic cards and CPU, as games evolve, people will need to buy a new 300$ console. games will never stop evolving and graphics will just keep improving.
