Can we cure blindness?

Do you think we'll have a cure for Blindness within our lifetimes?

  • Read this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-17936302 The idea that blindness could go the way of smallpox and leprosy... that's exciting to think about!

  • Answer:

It depends on why the person is blind. But already blind people who have qualified for the experiments have reported success. Images from digital cameras have somehow been tapped into the patients optic nerve. So far the patients have been able to see low resolution images but over time (like tv's etc) the res will improve. It is very exciting and near full resolution could well be possible by 2055.

That depends on whose lifetime is being used as the starting point. In any event, the device in the piece would be prohibitively expensive for many years.
