Going to Waterloo for a conference, is it a good plan putting 2 more day to visit Quebec city and montreal?
-
I am an international student and am going to Waterloo at the end of May for a conference in Waterloo university. I know that I should arrive on Toronto first. But after arriving to Toronto: 1. What is the best affordable way to get to Waterloo university? how much would it cost and how can I book it from now? 2. After the conference which finishes about 8pm in the evening, should I come back to Vancouver, or it worths taking a trip to Quebec city and Montreal? Also which one is better? (I have a limited budget about $900 for all my whole trip including airfare) 3. Which one do you suggest to visit (Quebec city/montreal/ ?). I have heard Quebec city is more interesting than Montreal. 4. Also I need to know how long it takes to go there from Waterloo by Train. and how much time do you suggest spending visiting each of them. How should my schedule be after finishing the conference at 8pm in Waterloo. Is it better to stay the night in waterloo and move to visit the other place(s) in the morning with train? 5. How can I find the best affordable bed and breakfast/hotel/motel (a good deal) in Quebec city/moneal for my duration of stay (how long?) in those cities. And also what is the best way to commute to there. and as I dont know french I prefer to find hotels that have free/cheap english tour for toursits for the Quebec city as well 6. How much would the total cost be approximately? it would be great if you could give me an estimate of cost for each of the commutes and hotels as well. (i dont need hotel for Toronto though), just in waterloo, quebec city and montreal (if I visit)

Answer:
Sorry, I do not think you can ever do all you wish for $ 900, unless you sleep under bridges. Montreal is much more interesting that Quebec City because it is much larger with a large immigrant population and there is far more to see and do. One needs several days to do Montreal adequately; one only needs a full day to see Quebec City. Your impression that Quebec City is more interesting is probably because it has a charming, quaint, preserved small "lower town" below the clff and along the riverbank which tends to captivate especially American tourists. I suggest you save Montreal and Quebec for a later trip and take more time in Toronto. It is Toronto -not New York City or Los Angeles - which is now the world's most multi-ethnic, multi-cultural city.

It's six hours from Toronto to Montreal by train, and costs $500 regular fare. Bus is slower but cheaper. You can fly from Toronto for about the same as train.

I live in Waterloo. From the airpost you can book Airways transit, its a shuttle service that goes to Waterloo and you can prebook, they have a website. It's probably about 80 bucks ( I can't remember) otherwise your going to have to get yourself to either the bus or train station which is in the opposite direction of Waterloo and would require more travel time. Airways Transit is direct and they have a location in the airport. I think its going to be really tight trying to get to montreal or quebec city from waterloo( money and time wise) . Are you going to fly home from montreal?
