Does poverty actually exist in America?

Where does poverty mainly exist?

• I'm writing a school project thingy about poverty, but I'm still a little unsure about where poverty exist today. I know it mainly exist in Africa, but that's about it. I also heard it exists around south Asia? Is that correct? And if so, does anyone know any specific countries? And what other parts of the world are full with poor people? And I mean extreme poverty and such. Poverty does exist pretty much everywhere, but I want to know where the most poor live. Any help appreciated.

  Everywhere! There are people in some countries in Africa and Asia (e.g. Nigeria, Japan, India and South Africa) that are richer and more comfortable than some homeless or low-income families in Europe and North America (Canada and US). Still there are some poor communities in these wealthy countries too. Some other countries in Africa (e.g. Uganda and maybe Kenya) may have regions that are not exactly fortunate. Some countries in Europe and Asia have the highest rate of homeless people. What exactly is my point? It is very inaccurate to generalize that even a country is poor. To say that a whole continent is in poverty is also absurd. The media decides to play it out that way, but that is just not the way it is. I would say for your school project, you may want to focus more on the cities/villages in these countries e.g. -Allen, South Dakota, US -Tatikal, India -Jamsaut village, India -Guageachi, Mexico These are just a few but you may want to research more. You don't want to generalize.
