A question about France and Europe?

Conservatives are saying how France is going broke and Greece is already broke and socialist ideas don't work?

  • I asked this question 2 years ago and just copy and pasted it now to see if I get different answers : Conservatives were saying this 30 years ago. The fact is socialism does work, and those people in Europe who never had to worry about paying for their kids college or health insurance and have been getting 2 months a year off from work have been living a better life than the cons in America will allow you to live. There are billionaires in France, life is good in France. They say if you don't like it here go to Europe. I say **** that, I am an American and I want the good life here in America. We can have what they have in Europe and we will. Will you vote for the good life? Will you vote democrat this November?

  • Answer:

Turn on your fukking television, dumbass. The Greece riots have begun. Liberals called it "May Day".

California went from the 7th largest economy in the world to broke for the exact same reasons.

France is going broke from supporting other countries with Germany. Germany and France have solid economies and are mildly (in the grand scheme of things) socialist. The problem there is the shared currency with other countries.

So 30 years ago till today Democrats never won? oh wait they have and things are still the same, haha looks like its in the best interests of the Democrats to keep you poor. That way you keep thinking they will help you when in fact its just more of the same so they keep getting your votes.

greece failed because it used too much borrowed money to make money in the capitalist market, not because of socialist ideals, and france is france, dirty. but ofc people will claim because greece is in europe and because it has had a strong socialist movement it must be socialist that made them bankrupt rather then having to borrow large amounts of money to bail out banks which where mismanaged by capitalist elites and then not having the neccassary means in which to pay it off

I'm not so sure that we have anything that works. At least no economic theories to date have answered all the questions, wants or needs of its people. There are so many conflicting ideas and so many countries like Greece have gone overboard with their promises that it hasn't worked for them at all. I'm not so sure its socialist ideas that don't work, or if its the extremes that the Greeks took it to. I don't think a good life as you seem mean it is a practical goal, there is a need for a more balanced approach than just unregulated capitalism or give it all away socialism. No country seems to have it just right.

There is a big problem now with the economy as it is in Europe. Yes their socialist support systems have been functioning but they cost a lot to have. If the economy is growing and healthy and businesses are doing well and you have low unemployment then the support system can be sustained by a growing population and the taxes generated by the growth in population and business. But in the current case of a bad economy and job losses at the levels of which haven't been seen in decades is too expensive to continue supporting the programs as they exist. Too many governments have ignored the spiralling upward costs and did nothing to offset them with economic growth and security. Greece is a special case as more than 50% of the population worked for government agencies which of course got very expensive with their huge benefit, retirement and vacation allotments. So they have been hit especially hard as the business community has not been able to generate a lot of new jobs over the last decade and has not added to the tax rolls. Hence the government spending was beyond income for a lot of years. The biggest problem for a government with socialist programs of decent vacation time, good benefits, reasonable unemployment benefits, a decent welfare system, free medical services for the entire population and all that stuff, is it costs huge. They need a big tax base and an ever expanding growth in the tax base which means both a growth in population and business. Many governments do not look at 10 years down the road but only at their term in power. This makes for bad decisions to put of cost cutting, restrictions on granting raises and other measures needed to keep spending in line with income. Measures must be made to allow for inflation and possible minor downturns in the economic situation of the country or parts of the country as any reduction in employment reduces income and expands expenditures (more unemployment and welfare payouts). The current US system is not setup to properly handle this type of system in the size needed for the nation.
