Why is it that in the first 130 years of this country we had no income tax and the country ran well, but for?

This is a stupid question, the difference is infrastructure, how do roads get built, taxes. How to we pay for military, taxes. How do we pay to upgrade utilities, taxes. You can compare then to now because look how far we have come.

In the first 130 years of this country we had slaves.

Well, to start your wrong. The first income tax in the US was 1861 and we've only had deficits for the past 40 years. The difference is that congress used to fund anything they passed. 7 trillion of the deficit is unfunded wars. 2 trillion is the drug benefit for medicare. Take those away and the debt is much more manageable.
