What do we use ammonia for in chemistry?

Is it Vinegar or Ammonia? Or are they just stupid?

  • My family is insane. We have a cat that decides to urinate all over every rug or article of clothing she can. My family believes its acceptable to proceed to wash these clothes or rugs with a huge splash of ammonia. Now all of the chemistry and biology I've had tells me to use vinegar, they refuse to use vinegar. They insist on smothering ammonia with ammonia. How is ammonia cleaning out the smell and contamination of ammonia?!?!

You are correct! You have to use vinegar to neutrlize the ammonia in cat urine. Otherwise the cat smells the amonnia and thinks the whole house is its pissing ground! To actually clean the house you have to: 1) Use a blacklight to find the urine stains (they will glow under black light). 2) Use a 1:1 ratio of vinegar and water solution and spray it into the affected areas. 3) Shampoo carpets with an enzyme based cleaner to kill any odor producing enzymes. 4) Use a deodorizer to refresh the house........ I would get rid of the cat! Because, otherwise, it will just continue to do the same thing over and over again!

I've always used vinegar, it will help neutralize the smell idk about but they have cat spray that will help her not piss on everything and get out the stains and smell of the piss
