Is having a bad reaction to alcohol uncommon?

Just a typical hangover, or bad reaction to alcohol?

  • After having just one cosmopolitan with a full steak dinner, I felt a bit flushed/buzzed as expected, then I started getting a very bad headache just a few hours later- not even the next day (as you'd expect with a typical hangover). Am I just that much of a lightweight and my headache is just a normal hangover- or does my body have some abnormal reaction to alcohol and I should just avoid it altogether?

  • Answer:

That happens to me no matter how much i drink. You are most likely really a lightweight drinker and the headache is just normal. The higher your tolerance the longer it takes for the headache to start.

Maybe you were a little dehydrated before you had an alcoholic drink......... Alcohol is a diuretic, which causes substantially increased outflow of urine. Simply put, drinking alcohol squeezes more water out of your body than the liquid in the drink puts back in. This is responsible for the headache that characterize even the mildest hangovers. The simplest preventative measure for hangovers is to imbibe a glass of water for every alcoholic drink you have. Hope this helps.
