Answer:
Bartenders get an hourly rate plus tips. Often the hourly rate for someone who makes tips is actually less than minimum wage because the tips make up for it. How much you make depends entirely on how busy the bar is during the hours you work. If you work at a restaurant bar in the middle of the day your tips won't be nearly as much as if you work at a hotspot on friday night. You can be a bartender and not make much more than a cashier at a convenience store, or you can make hundreds of dollars a night. There are also banquet bartenders who are more likely to get a higher hourly rate because the drinks are free at some banquets and people aren't necessarily going to tip every time. If you become a bartender you will likely have to start working slow hours and banquets and work your way up to getting shifts during busy hours. One bartender I know told me that he worked a Fourth of July shift at a popular place where you can watch the fireworks. He said he had to work fast and couldn't stop for a second all day, but he made $600 in tips. He said he doesn't plan on doing it again, it was that bad.

That depends on the State in which you live. Typically a bartender is a tipped employee, and in Ohio only have to be paid 1/2 of minimum wage. Check out this website from the US Dept of Labor. http://www.dol.gov/whd/state/tipped.htm Basically you will get tips, and you will live off of tips. The paychecks that you earn will most likely only cover your FICA taxes. I have been a waiter and a bartender, and you do have good and bad nights. They tend to even out. A Tuesday may not be as good as a Saturday. You will learn what a typical week is after a year. Also, how much you make depends on where you work. Is the place cater to rich people or blue collar joes? It really is a function of your drink sales. If you earn 15% tips, and sell 1,000.00 in drinks you will get $150.

Depends on bar volume. Your local bartender at neighborhood restaurants are going to make significanlty less than the club bartenders who are making double to triple the amount of drinks. If you want a slower pace you'll risk the pay cut, but it will be far less stress, and you'll get out before 5 in the morning!

They get payed by the bar in check and they get the tips as wells the chek is because the bar hired them so they have to pay them and the tips is from the costumers they are like weigters the tip they get they keep plus the chek so they make pretty good money on good days and they don't make much money on bad days
Just as you say, how much they make is highly dependent on tips.
