Help Writing a CV?

Help with writing a CV for a 15 year old?

  • I am 15 and I'm applying for a job at a local cafe. They've asked me for a CV and I've researched how to write one and so far I have come up with this: (Name) (Address) (Email) (Mobile Number) (Telephone Number) Career Objective: To gain more independence, to support myself while still in education and to save money for my future. Education: I go to (school) and I am currently sitting my standard grade/intermediate 2 exams for maths, english, biology, modern studies, spanish, computing studies, graphic communication and music. Last year I sat my intermediate 1 maths and I got an A. Work Experience: None. I don't know if this is ok or not, and I'm not really sure if I have put enough in about myself. Could someone please give me some tips on writing a CV? Thank you!

  • Answer:

You could put on commitments that you've had in the past - for example school plays, sports teams, being a prefect/mentor to younger students, after school clubs, Duke of Edinburgh award - anything that will highlight you from other applicants. You might also want to capitalise your subjects and change "2" to "two" and "1" to "one" - they're just little changes, but they have a big impact on the reader and look a bit more professional. You could also mention which subjects you have a particular interest in, if you think it's relevant (for example I applied to a web design company for work experience and mentioned that I enjoyed programming and working with computers in general). Also mention things that you're good at - if you're good at adding up money in your head, then that might be a skill that you want to mention. Remember that a CV is a chance to sell yourself - if you've got something even a little bit relevant that you could put on, go for it. Try to keep it short, though - a page and a bit would be the maximum.
