Do you need History A level to study law at University ?
-
I'm in my first year of Sixth Form, soon to be second and was wondering if I needed History at A level to study Law at University, many people have told me that Universities tend to favour those that are doing History when applying for Law.

Answer:
No you don't. There are no required options for Law at University. The only advice they give is for you not to take Law A Level. What they want are solid academic subjects, which demonstrate intelligence. I would say History is the best subject to take for Law at A Level, but that's more to do with the fact that it will prepare you for the course, and will show you whether you'll enjoy the style of learning you have in a Law Degree. It isn't a disadvantage to not take History at A Level at all. You don't even need to have essay-based subjects. Applicants with Science A Levels are just as successful as those with essay-based subjects such as English Literature and History. It's no disadvantage to not have history, it's just recommended as a good choice for those who are picking the subject. I think it's largely advised because people who enjoy studying Law will probably also enjoy studying the History A Level. So it's a good option in that respect.

You don't 'NEED' to but the essay-writing aspects of History contribute to the skills needed for Law. Hope i helped! :)

Not at all. There are MUCH better subjects to take over History. I would take English, Philosophy, Accounting, Business Studies, Politics or Economics over History.

You don't need to do it to get accepted, but they might require you to get a certain grade for that particular uni from one of your chosen subjects. I did law, spanish and psychology and my offer was for an A in Law. They don't choose their students based on what subjects they did but on what grades you have.

Not necessarily. What they care about is your grades. Whether you take history, biology, or accounting, you must have high marks.
