How do I become an English Teacher?

I will have a bachelors in English soon; How can I become a high school teacher in Ohio?

• I go to a university that requires a bachelors in order to be accepted to their masters education program. I don't have time to get my masters degree right away, but I will have my bachelors in English in the next year. How can I become a high school english or speech teacher without getting my masters and with only a bachelors of English? Also, I live in Ohio now, but when I am looking for a job I will be moving to another state, so will getting licensed in Ohio pull through to the next state or will I need to re-attend any classes or programs in that new state also? In that case would it be better to just wait until I move so I don't have to pay for the classes all over again?

  Unfortunately since your Bachelors isn’t in ‘Teaching’/’Education’….I don’t think you can get a full-time teaching job in Ohio. As far as licensing state to state --- like someone else said…it just depends on the state if they accept Ohio licensure or not. You CAN be a substitute teacher with many Bachelor’s degrees though. So that’s what I’d shoot for if I were you until you can go back for your Master’s in Teaching. You won’t get to choose the subject though. In some districts you could work full-time – they will call you everyday to come in. It just depends on where you are. Look into that though.
