Average house insurance in Canada?

Will my Insurance Company ship my perscriptions to Canada?

  • I'm going to be staying in Canada for about 6/9 months depending on my Visitor's Visa and I was wondering if my Insurance Company would be able to ship me my prescriptions for Mircette and Cholesterol medication? Right now I'm in a program where they ship a 3 month supply to my house in the states and I was just wondering if I could continue that in Canada. My insurance is through United Healthcare and it will continue to be through them until I get my own.

  • Answer:

No. Canada customs have specific requirements for bringing prescription medications in to the country. You are allowed to bring a single 6 months supply with you when you first enter. You may also ship a single 6 month supply into Canada after that. There are specific rules for the types of drugs, packaging, labelling, and customs declarations. If you need more than 180 days you would have to have a visa to permit you to stay in the country and would need to see a Canadian doctor for a prescription.

Other answers

Your insurance company doesnt ship medication, your pharmacy does. Your insurance covers the prescription cost. Ask the pharmacy if they will ship to you in Canada. If they cannot do that, ask someone where you live to forward the pills to you from home.

I don't think it's legal to ship prescriptions out of the country.
