Entry level data entry job qualifications?

  • On the 27th, there was a job posted online by a temp agency for an entry level data entry operator for a mortgage firm. I was out of town and away from the PC when it was posted, but when I saw it last night, I submitted my resume via email to the recruiter. I would be a fit, but I've been "out of date", so to speak, on data entry and what is considered entry level or not now. I type 145 wpm with 100% accuracy and ten key was over 10,000 kpm. Is this still "good" in the data entry world, or has the almost daily usage of computers raised the standards for entry level data entry operators?

  • Answer:

It has not raised the standards in terms of how much you can type per minute as your skills are still very good. However most companies now look for more than just data entry skills as they know they can use the position for other areas of the company. Basically these days everyone can type at a respectable rate per minute for data entry positions so now it is a matter of standing out from a crowd. My personal preference is I would be more interested in someone who types 60 wpm and has other experiences or skills that will benefit my company than someone who types 145 wpm and that is their primary skill.
