How do remittance agents make money?

Do Secret Service Agents make alot of money?

  • I'm a thirteen year old girl who is trying to decide what I want to do for a career. At first, I wanted to study at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts and become a drama school teacher. Then, I was going to do ROTC in high school to get me ready for the air force so I could be a pilot. But now I really think I want to be a secret service agent. I told my Mom and Dad and they thought that was a good idea and told me to do some research. Which I have. But now I'm wondering if they make alot of money... Thanks!

  • Answer:

What is your definition of "a lot" of money. An agent is a government position for which you will need a college education (bachelor's degree) and what they deem superior academic achievement (GPA of 3.5, etc.), This will get you a GS-7 pay which is $34,000 annually without locality pay (you get more money if you live in certain areas, such as the DC area). If you get in, you should progress through GS-9, GS-11 and maybe GS-12 relatively quickly (annually with any luck) which after 3 years would put your salary at $60,000. After that it gets harder to move up the scale as the jobs start becoming management jobs for which there is a lot of competition. With luck, you can snag a GS-13 position after 3 or 4 years at GS-12 which pays $71,000. After that it really gets hard to move up, but just so you know, a GS-14 pays $85,000 without locality pay.
