How do I remove MSN Explorer off my computer?

How do I remove Google redirect virus (Happili/Scour/etc.) in Windows 7, Internet Explorer 9?

  • Read carefully before giving answers. Somehow, I don't know how, I've been infected with this Google redirect virus and it affects my Internet Explorer. (But not MSN thankfully, which is what I usually use.) I have tried almost EVERYTHING to get rid of it. McAfee won't pick it up, nor will SuperAntiSpyware, Malwarebytes, or anything else. (Spyware Doctor was the only thing, but I can't use it 'cause it wants me to pay). I've read that it's part of a TDSS toolkit, but every TDSS killer I use does nothing. I've tried TDSS killer, FixTDSS and three more, but none of them work. I have ran searches for TDSS in my system and found nothing. Is it possible it's in IE itself? Does anyone happen to know how either A.) A FREE program that WILL kill this thing or B.) How to remove it manually-in a non-complicated way (I'm not very good with fixing computers) or am I totally hopeless? Also, do NOT ask me for logs or anything. I won't give them, nor do I understand tech stuff. Any help is much appreciated, since I'm a little afraid it will muck up my computer.

  • Answer:

The Google Redirect problem (Happili...etc.) is not caused by a virus...it's caused by the Alureon rootkit. The following removal method has been employed successfully by others on this site, so give it a go. TDSSKiller will remove the rootkit (in Safe Mode). If a scan with TDSSKiller reveals nothing, then you're not infected with the Google Redirect problem. Your problems lie elsewhere. The other downloads are included in order to check for infections you may not know you have. Try this: Firstly, boot your computer to the Safe Mode menu screen. You do this by repeatedly pressing F8 as soon as you boot up. Once there, use the arrow keys to highlight Safe Mode with Networking. Continue to boot from there, by pressing Enter. If that's successful, download and run TDSSKiller.exe from Kaspersky Lab. It's tiny, and takes just a minute to run. It hunts down and kills a specific family of rootkits: http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/solutions?qid=208280684 Regardless of the results, download the free version of Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware (MBAM). Install it, get updates and run a full scan (still in Safe Mode). This is a direct download link. Copy and paste it into your browser’s address bar, and press Enter. http://www.myantispyware.com/mbam After that, boot normally and run another full scan with MBAM. It will detect any malware that wasn’t running in Safe Mode. If the problem still exists, download and run the free Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool: http://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/utility You should now delete TDSSKiller.exe and the Kaspersky Virus Removal Tool, as updated versions are often made available. Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware can be easily uninstalled, should you wish to do so, but it may prove to be beneficial in the future. Hope this helps.

First, download malwarebytes (http://www.malwarebytes.org/) install it and run a full scan and remove anything it finds. If that doesnt work follow the rest of the instructions at removing malware's removal guide (http://www.removingmalware.org/google-redirect-virus-removal-guaranteed/)
