Can I use silverdine for a scar?

Can I use antibacterial cream on the hypertrophic scar I have on my navel piercing?

  • I have a hypertrophic scar on my navel piercing. For those of you who don't know what that is it is a buildup of scar tissue after the piercing heals. It can be treated different ways to make it go down, but the only way to get rid of it completely is to get it sugically removed. Right now, my belly button is oozing and crusting due to this. It also leaves a bad and unpleasant smell. I have tried cleaning it 3 times a day; once in the morning, when I get home from school, and in the shower with antibacterial hand soap (my normal cleaning). I have also tried soaking it in non-iodized sea salt for 10-15 minutes a day. I make sure my belly button is completely dry when I clean it and when I get out of the shower by using toilet paper or a q-tip. If anyone can help me and tell me what to do or how to get this oozing and crusting to stop, that would be amazing. I've done research, but I haven't found anything helpful. PLEASE do NOT tell me to use alcohol or peroxide. I have been told by a PROFESSIONAL, NOT to do that. Thanks (: P.S. The "oozing" is not puss, it is clear and watery.

Well from what I've heard, it's best to stay away from antibacterial soaps and creams when nursing a new piercing, but that's just me. I had a hypertrophic scar on one of my piercings and I found tea tree oil extremely useful, as it dries the scar out. I usually just put a drop or two on a Q tip and dabbed it gently on the afflicted area, and combined with Sea salt soaks, it disappeared within about a week and a half. I have also read that warm chamomile tea compresses help with hypertrophic scars a lot, though I haven't tried this myself. Try using medical or paper tape over the scar to keep pressure on it, this might speed up the scar disappearing. Is it a new piercing? It if is, the crusting could be dried lymph. I'm not really sure about the oozing though.
