What are chunky pages?

What is a good amount of pages for a chapter in fanfiction?

  • So I wrote a fanfiction. It's pretty good from the reviews I've gotten so far and it's around 50 pages long total. However, I was considering reorganizing it. So basically, I want to know what a good amount of pages for a chapter would be, so I know how to break it up. Should I do 10 pages per chapter? 5 pages? 20 pages? Some other amount?

  • Answer:

I assume you mean a4 pages that show up by default on MS Word. I usually post 2 or 3 pages max for chapters. But my fanfics usually last for 60+ chapters. The real kicker is not in fact, the page count. It is finding a place suitable to end the chapter. Find good cliffhangers, or places where story-lines end. Places like that would make for better chapter division than generic word/page count based divisions.

Depends on the story. A chapter isn't a certain number of words or pages, it's a small self-contained chunk of story. I suggest you put chapter breaks in at scene changes, or time skips.

Chapters can be short or long - its your preference - you are the author! I usually make sure there's a good chunk of drama/relative plot points in each chapter so my readers wont get bored. Leaving cliffhangers also makes them want to read on.
