Is a marketing degree worth it?

Is there a difference between a business administration degree with marketing emphasis and a marketing degree?

  • I will be transferring out of community college soon and I have been researching schools. I want to major in marketing but so many of the schools I'm looking at offers a business administration degree with a marketing emphasis or concentration. I did some research and I think that there is a difference between the two degrees but I'm not sure. From what I gathered, the business admin with marketing emphasis just gives you a few marketing classes under your belt and it is just a busniss admin degree which i dont want. The schools that i have seen with marketing degrees are all focused on marketing. Im so confused! Any help or insite would be great thanks!

  • Answer:

I think you may be right, although most programs I've heard of are the same way (marketing is a concentration in a business degree). At the university I'm attending, Business/Managerial Science is the major and you can concentrate in Management, marketing, accounting, or hospitality management. A few of my friends are in the marketing program and they said there is more than just a few marketing courses. The major is 54 credits, 21 of which are required for all business majors, and the rest of for your particular concentration.
