What if UPS delivers your package to the wrong address?
-
I was to receive a package that was sent through UPS it was a car part for my vehicle and was to drop ship from the manufacturer.I waited and the box came up delivered only to discover they put my name and the wrong house address on it and it went to my not so friendly neighbors.I called the company through which it was ordered only to be told to go get my package from them these are not friendly people and do not feel it is my job and was yelled at twice by the neighbor to leave them alone anyway the company kept calling me to ask if I recovered the package for over a week and a half finally they said they would ship me another one.It has been over a month and still haven't received the replacement it was something I need not like a shirt or something it was a car part.I was just wondering since I never seen my package from the neighbor what can happen?I was told by UPS they will not pick it up because it was delivered to the address on the shipping label I do not know if the company can get them to change their minds or not but that is what I was told.I know if the neighbor is questioned by anyone they will deny they ever received it.I just would like to know at this point what may happen? Thanks

Answer:
This does happen, and normally can be resolved when not as complicated. UPS is not at fault because they delivered it to the address as required. Assuming that you gave the right address to the car part seller and better if that was in writing, they are at fault, and you did complain to them, but they did not ship a replacement. If they are a business in the US, it is possible to complain to the Better Business Bureau for the region they are in, or note it to any rating agencies that apply if internet purchased like Resellerrating.com and you might get a personal satisfaction about rating them badly at Web of Trust, and any business license government agency or newspaper, but that doesn't get the part quickly or easily. A lawsuit is also possible, but not helpful in this case. Things happen in life that mess up and sometimes we pay twice for things even when not our fault. A long time ago, I was recovering my lost dog from a city I moved away from and the airline misplaced the empty pet carrier I brought in baggage handling. They would not reimburse me immediately saying they will look for it. I bought a new one, and the airline found the original one when I was back at the airport, so I was out $80 and had a second item I did not need. I give this example to explain that sometimes, even when someone else is at fault, you end up with an extra expense. Option one: Buy another part hopefully from a different company more local even if you don't recover the original one or end up with a second extra no-use part. Option two: Get the police involved with the proof being the UPS and written notice from the seller of where it was shipped and delivered and although they cannot go searching for it, maybe the police at the door talking to them would be more effective. Option three: Tell your neighbor that an item was mis-delivered and you offer a small reward for the recovery and the trouble of receiving and holding it and you certainly apologize for their inconvenience. If you mistyped a wrong address, there is some fault on your side, and telephone ordering does get more errors in re-writing. It is the sellers fault in this case. I forget what major company (I think it was Dell Computers) that had a new system put in for customer orders to shipping and there was a bad software error that messed up all the addresses. Nobody got their computers and it happened over about 4 days. Dell could not recover the computers because they sent them to wrong people. If something is received addressed to your address, you own it. It is a law to prevent companies from sending you things and billing you. If they do that, you can just tear up the bill. That is similar to what happened. Your neighbor technically owns the part delivered to him. I am sorry this is complicated, but so is your situation, and I prefer to give complete answers as accurate as I understand a situation.
