Can someone explain financial aid fafsa to me?? financial aid disbursement refund?
-
I took a couple of classes last year a math class and a CNA course. This was my first year of college. Well they sent me this debit card from the college and the letter with it said it was for my financial aid awards. So I kept checking the balance, and nothing was in there until AFTER I passed my classes. I had already payed for my classes because they said it was just charged to my financial aid. I went down to the student services and she said the debid card my financial aid REFUND. She said I can spend it on whatever I please. Well I'm a little confused, so if it's a refund does that mean that I have to pay it back? I got a big grant but since the classes were already payed off I don't know what this money is. I also accepted a loan so I didn't know if it was my loan money and I don't know if this money is supposed to go twords my classes or what? She didn't give me a whole lot of information other than I can spend it on whatever I want. Please helpp :)

Answer:
A refund is a refund.. you're in college right? you should know what a refund is. But, yes you don't have to pay anything back. As the lady at the service desk said, enjoy it. You deserve it! It doesn't matter if you payed for your classes, since you were approved for fin. aid that's why they gave you a refund. I don't know about the loan since I never took those things. If you're still in doubt I would persistently bother the financial aid office and or the loan services making sure that you don't owe anything back.

the money is not to be spent on whatever you want, but instead supposed to be saved so you can pay for your summer semester tuition when colleges do not give out financial aid. if your financial aid package included any student loans, yes you will have to pay pack those funds.

If you paid for your classes out of your own pocket and not with any loan money. Then this is a refund. That you do not have to pay back. But if you are still uncertain then call the 800 number to find out.
I would try going to the website and browsing for your answer. Or call the 800 number on the website and ask! I hope this helps and congratulations on the grant!
