Dry eyes or allergic conjunctivitis?

My cat has chronic conjunctivitis in both eyes?

• I have tried an expensive oral antibiotic for 1 month and this has not helped at all. I have also used an expensive gel antibiotic that you put in the cat's eyes 3 times a day. This hard to do but works only temporarily. When you stop using it the condition returns right away!! Does anybody know of a home remedy or an over-the -counter product that would either control or clear this condition. His eyes drip all the time and it looks like blood but do not believe it is. I wipe his eyes daily with a cotton ball soaked in warm water. Thanx!!

  Agree with above that home remidies will not work. Hte steroid medication may be a good choice if your vet deems so, but there are some complications and contraindications for using steroids in eyes, so trust what he/she prescribes you. Don't give up, there are many types of bacteria that can cause eye infections, and it may be as simple as the antibiotic you tried was not the correct one for the situation. Not your vets fault, we usually try to pick the most likely to work since "testing" what type of bacteria is present is expensive. Talk to your vet and he/she will likely prescribe a different class of antibiotic, that has a broader/different range for bacteria it kills.
