My dog keeps pooping and peeing in the house?

My dog keeps peeing in the house, what can I do?

  • I've had my dog for almost ten years, and he was potty trained when we first got him. But the past year or so, he's been on and off peeing in certain areas of the house. Sometimes, he can be home alone a lot. I always give me a lot of attention when I'm home, and I'm usually home. But when I'm a class, or my parents are working, he spends quite some time alone. The problem isn't coming from him having to pee. We alway let him outside and a lot of the time, he'll come in from outside and go and pee in the house. He's been peeing in the bathroom a lot lately, even more than usual. My mom is seriously threatening to get rid of him, because he is ruining the things in our house. This would be so devastating to me, and I don't know what to do. I can't lose my dog to this! What can I do to get him to stop peeing? And why is he peeing in the house?

  • Answer:

there actually could be many reasons why, but i am going through the same situation with my 15 year old dog that will go outside and come right back in after peeing outside and pees right in front of me for no reason. just started doing all this, this year. along with not being able to see all that well and going deaf. its like he is a puppy all over again. but take your dog to a vet have him/her tested for diabeteses. i really dont know if there is much they can do, maybe doggy diapers. thats what i am going to be looking into next. i hope the best for your dog.

The peeing in the house is most likely due to his old age. you may have to take him out more often and get him some puppy potty training pads for him to use while you all are gone. Make sure you correct him for peeing in the house. Let him know you do not approve of this. You can also put him in a crate while you are gone and while you all are asleep. Don't let him have any water at least 4 hours before bedtime. This should help.

hmmm...my moms dog was doing that, he was getting old too, we figured it was because he's old and can't simply hold it as long as he used to. he would stand up from the chair and just start peeing where he stood! we would scold him, and his ears would go down but he would keep going, we ended up in the habbit of just taking him outside a lot more often. it could be because of old age, take him out more often, if you're gone a lot, you can buy the dog wee pads, they come in large to small. place it in the bathroom or someplace that you are willing to let him go pee in the house at, and try to teach him that's where he goes, then hopefully when you're gone he will only go in that location. as for my moms dog, age 13? he ended up dieing of a siezer but when she took him in day of the siezer the doctor did a scan and found he had a brain tumor, aparently he had had it for years! and we had no idea, he didn't act any different at all, simply acted a little older but he still played, ran around, ate fine. and the peeing, was actually because he was having a mini siezer! his body would just release, he knew he was doing bad but didn't know how not to do it. I'm not sugesting your dog has a tumor, not at all. That just ended up being the reason my moms was peeing all the time, but he wasn't simply going off in the house to pee, he would just stand up and go where he was. but try the dog pee pads, if you catch him in the act tell him no, and direct him to the pad in the house, maybe he just needs to be retrained, or taken our more often?

Have you taken him to a vet? There is medication available for age related incontinence. Tell your mother it may happen to her one day as she ages. She'd better hope the family doesn't get rid of her when it happens.
