How do I connect my Dell Studio 15 labtop to my LCD TV?

VGA to LCD TV connection help?

  • Hello, I am trying to connect my old Dell E520 desktop running XP with a NVIDEA GeForce 7300 LE card to a LCD TV via the 15 pin VGA cable. I connected the cable to my TV and switched it to PC mode, but I get no signal. Is there anything else I need to do? I can connect a newer Windows 7 Dell laptop to the TV so the VGA cable and TV are working correctly. I'm starting to wonder if the NVIDEA card is compatible, since it's older (2006)?

  • Answer:

You will have to switch the graphics card output to the VGA output. This is either done in the driver software or usually done by the Function key + an F key. For some Dells this I think is FN key + F8 key. but consult your user manual if that is not the case. When this is sorted you will have to cater for the sound separately if required

The Nvidea card may not be detecting the TV. Or the video settings of the computer may not be compatible with the TV. Check the settings of the computer that works and then try getting the older computer up to those settings. Esp check the vertical refresh rate (AKA frame rate).

Might just need to adjust settings on it. Like make sure that the VGA port is the primary choice. I don't see why not it shouldn't work. Double check through your video settings. That should just do the trick. I know in Windows 7 that if you hit WINDOWS + P, it will come up with options. Just need to take a few extra steps to get into the display settings for it. Hope I helped!
