What's the best way to learn PHP?

  • I'm new to web design. Until now I've only used HTML combined with CSS. I have basic knoledge about C++ programming and I want to elarn php. What's the best way in your opinion to learn it, and not get droped in a load of tehnical boring books which consumes your time without making you a better programmer. Thank you for helping. Please share your own experiences PS: I'll appreciate some links to good tutorials

    I think the best way is to download Wampserver or XAMPP (assuming you're using windows) then learn to use the MySQL database.. as well as learning how to create your own SQL commands. You will also need to know some basic HTML and CSS. Knowing those languages is prerequisite to learning PHP. I also highly recommend the book Programming PHP (published by O'Reilly). w3schools also has a pretty good PHP tutorial (although I'm sure there are better ones out there) Good luck and have fun!

The book "PHP and MySQL Web Development" by Welling and Thomson is not a technical, boring book. It takes you step by step through creating a functional web site, starting with a user login page. By the end, you will have created a complete website. As for what development tool to use, NetBeans supports PHP. Get the free community edition.

Try going on to YouTube and searching for PHP tutorials. There are lots of them and I'm sure you can find some that will help you. The best part here is that they are free.

I learned PHP from reading the book Murach's PHP and MySQL and also from watching tutorials on YouTube.
