How to keep conversation going well?

How do I keep this conversation going?

• Ok, so there this girl, she's my friend. I like her, and I know she likes me. I am in 9th grade, and she is in 8th, so we don't see each other that much because we go to different schools. That's will change next year. We always text each other a lot, and she is usually the one to text me by saying "Hey." I usually say "what's up", and she responds, but her responses are usually close-ended, and its hard to keep a conversation going without bringing up a new conversation topic every five seconds. I guess its because we are both not very good at keeping conversations going. I was wondering if someone could tell me how to keep this conversation going, and also a way I can let her know that I like her and that she can trust me with anything she might want to talk about. Please help me with this! Thanks!
