Can I hook up my old VCR to my new flat screen?

Will this RCA cable hook a VCR up to my TV?

  • I have a Dynex flat screen LCD television. And I was wanting to hook my old VCR up to it so I could watch some old movies tonight. However, the only cable I have in my house that will hook up to it is a cable (I believe it is called a RCA cable.) with 2 pegs instead of the standard 3. The cable I have only has Yellow and Red, instead of Yellow, Red, and White. Will my cable still hook my VCR up, or do I need to buy a new cable with all 3 pegs? Thank you for your time!

  • Answer:

You need 3 yellow for video red right audio and white for left audio,You maybe able to use the 75 ohm cable or use the 2 and your audio will be only one side.

Go ahead and use what you have. Match up the colors and select the AV input on your TV. You'll be missing the left channel of your stereo audio, which is the white lead, but that may not be a problem if your old movie's audio isn't stereo. If you can find a single cord with RCA plugs on both ends (any color) you can connect the white jack of the VCR output to the white audio jack at your AV input and thus pick up the left audio channel. Or, just get a new cable with all 3, whenever convenient.
