Traveling via Amtrak from LA to Orlando! Documents required!?

2 friends of mine are planning to travel to Orlando from LA via Amtrak. One of them is an Illegal alien that only has a passport as his only form of identification. 1 - Do they require/check for legal status traveling via train? 2 - If they do! Is a passport enough!? 3 - What Amtrak line would be safest to travel in, the one that runs along the border states with Mexico (fastest) or the one that runs directly through the middle of th US!?? P.S. looking for serious answers!! Not racial discriminatory comments!! Thank You

Apparently, all they ask for is a photo ID. As an adult, I've only taken Amtrak between Boston and New York or Washington DC (several times) and have not once even been asked for a drivers license. I'm not sure if they ask for an ID on other routes though. I haven't taken longer distance trains though so not sure about the third part of your question. My guess is, if you're worried about an illegal getting caught, staying farther from the border would be better - but I have no experience with that either.

You have got to be kidding....Amtrak from Orlando to LA sounds HORRIBLE. But these types of questions make no sense. He is no more likely to get picked up on a train across the country, than he is going to the grocery store, work, or whatever he normally does.

There is no direct route from Orlando to LA. You can go Chicago to LA. But there is no route from Orlando to Chicago. Chicago to LA is about $200.00 And takes 44 hours. My daughter has used amtrack and has only been asked for a photo ID
