Do I need Canadian Transit Visa?

  • I am a mainland Chinese citizen studying in US on a F-1 visa. I will be flying home to Shanghai from Atlanta via Toronto next week. According to http://www.canadainternational.gc.ca/china-chine/visas/beijing-pekin/visiting-visiter.aspx?lang=eng&view=d I will need Canadia transit visa and this transit visa application will take 4-8 weeks. So, there is not enough time for me to apply for this visa. Will I be turned back at Atlanta airport next week? Can I still be granted entry into Canada for my connecting flight? Anyone has similar experience? What should I do now? When I called Air Canada (the airline I am flying with), the rep said that I don't need a visa. Is her answer correct?
