How much does it cost to go to the University of Tokyo in Japan?

How should I go about notarizing a document in Japan?

  • I want to apply to teach English in Korea, but I need to get documents notarized before I can make it there. I want to make it there for August but due to the fact that my employers are keeping me here in captivity, I will have no time to go to the Canadian consulate in Tokyo (90 km away from where I am) to get my documents notarized. I won't have the time to do that until August. If I go to a nearby notary public office somewhere here in North Kanto (Tochigi or eastern Gunma-ken), how much will it cost me to notarize a document (such as a photo copy of my passport or university degree)? I read that there are only 510 notary public offices in Japan, and to get a simple document notarized costs 11,500 yen. How should I go about doing this? Should I get it done cheaper at my embassy, or are there local notary public offices that can notarize my documents cheaper than 11,500 yen? If you know any in Sano city, Ashikaga, or Utsonomyia etc. please let me know.

  • Answer:

Nobody is keeping you in captivity. Call in sick. Tell them you don't trust the local doctors. Or tell them it is a personal problem and that you want to consult a doctor from another area. You're talking about a day if you time it right, two tops. Get your thing notarized and then drop by a mental health clinic and tell them that you think you a couple of sandwiches shy of a picnic and are really depressed about it. Or tell them that your Johnny Cash music collection got stolen. As for the price, I'm not calling the embassy for you. You can't convince me that you don't have phones out there so you can call them and ask the price. I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the embassy will be cheaper than a Japanese notary.
