• Holocaust: Concentration Camps The Holocaust is an awful story that shall never be forgotten. The causes of this disaster vary, and each one resulted in a different life effect on Jews. The solution of their problems was in effect for years. Unfortunately, many lives were tormented while others were ended. The beginning of the Holocaust resulted in Jews being sent to concentration camps. The families were separated between different sexes and religion. The effects these concentration camps had on people were terrifying. In the process of gaining power Hitler killed about six million Jews. Not only did he strive to destroy the race of Jews but also the population of Jehovah’s witnesses, homosexuals, and many more. Concentration camps were the only detentions made but also Ghettos which were city districts in which the Germans concentrated the municipal and sometimes regional Jewish population and forced them to live under miserable conditions. Auschwitz, the largest camp was located in Poland and it was estimated that more than 1,250,000 people were murdered at Auschwitz. Out of this, more than 1,000,000 of the population at Auschwitz were Jew; 10,000 were Poles; and 19,000 gypsies; and 12,000 soviet prisoners of war were killed at Birkenau (Dee 10). There was about a total of 2.5 million people that were murdered from the gas chambers during the holocaust (Pesnick 11). Adolf Hitler was born on April 20, 1889 Braunau near the German border. In 1903 Hitler’s fathered died leaving him sad and lost. After applying for an art school at the age of 18 Hitler got rejected and was devastasted. In 1907 when his mother died of cancer her death affected much more than his fathers. In 1909 Hitler registered for the army and he found it great. Years had passed and Hitler still was unhappy with the many rejections he had got so he decided to make up his own group which included German soldiers he had associated with (Berwick 85). Jews were treated horrible in concentration camps to the extent that they couldn’t bear it any more. After getting transported in large wagons to camps Jews had to go through a process to enter. Once there everyone would get separated by sex. Then they would get stripped down clothes. The Women would get their hair cut off. Numbers were carved into their skin to determine who they are and where they would be stationed. After this was all over the only food given to them was a small piece of bread. After their meal they were sent out to labor in the fields. Most people wouldn’t make it to last the day once the SS-Death Unit arrived to take people to the deadly gas chambers. Women and men would be stripped of clothes and thrown into gas chambers filled with acids intending to kill. In order to insure the death of everyone enclosed in the gas chambers security workers would not open the doors until hours later. The chemicals in the gas chambers would turn the skin of the corpses a light pink. Most corpses were found near the door in which victims tried to escape. Corpses were loaded onto iron wagons and transported to a deep pit. The ways of murder varied but gas chambers were the most common used. After weeks of work and deaths doctors would arrive to inspect the Jews and make sure none were sick. Whoever was found sickly was sent to the gas chambers because their work was thought poorly. Not only sick wasn’t able to live but also babies, children, or women carrying children. Adolf Hitler managed to kill about six million Jews in his time of power. The effects on the Jews vary. Some believe it was a challenge of their faith and hope. Many families were separated in the process and in danger of never seeing each other again. Few died only because the pain they had to endure was unbearable and they couldn’t take it anymore. Hitler’s final solution to the Jews question of when this would all be over was liberation and emigration. The second solution brought into mind was evacuation of Jews which most Jews feared only because they were afraid to return to their regular lives. After having the solutions in mind thousands of concentration camp survivors emigrated. The Holocaust will always be a terrible legacy that was destined to happen. Concentration camps were put into effect to limit Jewish rights but only caused a massacre of deaths. To survive the holocaust was only a matter of hope or not. Lives were changed and even more were ruined but as we can see now Jews made it out.
